I’m ready to do another five-day “fasting-mimicking diet.” I invite you to try the most straightforward way of fasting I’ve found. If you’ve been with me for a few years, you may remember I’ve been doing these fasts before I got covid. Now I believe that fasting more will finally help me get back on my feet, and I’m strong enough to do it now.
Also, my belly is fat. Ew. Plus, I am not fighting off things I used to be able to pre-covid. Ugh.
In the last six months, I’ve gotten Giardia, a rash from a mineral spring, a persistent vaginal infection, a nail fungus, a UTI from a hot spring, and had a terrible reaction to the covid vaccination. This is a fallout from being sick for over a year from Covid. It detonated in my body, and my immune system can’t recover.
Every time I feel better, something knocks me down. I’m going to the root of the problem and fixing it by using autophagy to eliminate the damage that is dampening my immune response.
This is INTERESTING new science.
When you have damaged cells, your body needs to go through autophagy (spring-cleaning) to eliminate dead cells and tissue, fatty deposits, tumors, and other obstructions to optimal body function. Otherwise, they accumulate, and your ratio of damaged cells to healthy cells gets too high. You begin to lose energy because you have mitochondrial damage. The mitochondria are the batteries that make energy in your cells.
Worse, the broken cells called SASP (senescent-associated secretory phenotype) cells leak inflammatory goo. Your body’s cytokines reach your stem cells. But your stem cells make more leaky goo SASP cells instead of new healthy cells. Argh! Then the ratio of damaged cells to healthy cells gets even higher. And downhill you go.
Chronic inflammation locks your body in a perpetual state of molecular stress as it struggles to heal injuries, says author Dave Asprey of Fast This Way. (See link below.) Over time, the lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages end up attacking healthy tissue instead of cleaning up the inflammation, which leads to auto-immune disease, accelerating the aging process and leading to all sorts of chronic diseases.
The best way to clean out these SASP and other damaged cells and debris is through simple, easy fasting. When your body isn’t building from the food you feed it, it has a chance to clean the inflammatory goo and broken cells out.
To get a good autophagy phase in play, I’ve found that a 5-day Fasting-Mimicking Diet is the easiest way to clean out the broken SASP cells. These are also called Zombie cells by many doctors and longevity experts.
