WHAT IS TRANSCENDENT SEX?
I pulled this book, Transcendent Sex: When Lovemaking Opens The Veil off my girlfriend’s bookshelf and devoured it with great interest.
Jenny Wade, PhD is a development psychologist who has done an impressive job categorizing the ways people have transcendent sexual experiences including:
- Feeling Energy or Light, Kundalini Awakenings
- Divine Unions with God(s) in a Religious Experience
- Connecting with Earthly Beings, Animals and Nature
- Seeing Their Lover’s Face or Body Transform Into Something Else
- Time Travel and Past Life Awareness
- Being in Nothingness – The Void
There were myriad experiences where one partner had a transcendent moment and the other partner was completely oblivious. Some partners had mutual experiences together. The examples were wide ranging but the bottom line is that all humans are capable of having these kinds of experiences and for some it comes by surprise while others cultivate the possibility. Jenny reports that 80% of the people she interviewed for the book never shared their experience with anyone, not even their lover, until she asked them for the details.
MY TRANSCENDENT MOMENTS
I have personally had transcendent moments during my Expanded Orgasm practice with my husband. In those moments I felt my kinship with all humanity and tapped into the source of all being, which is love. I have been forever altered and filled with more love and compassion from these moments. They have affected me at my core, awakening me to my own humanity and my love for all beings.
HOW TO ACHIEVE RAPTURE
There are many paths to transcendence including prayer, meditation, yoga postures and yes, lovemaking. If you want to actively put your attention on this path to ecstasy the author recommends the following steps:
- Be alert for connections that may prefigure altered-state sex.
- Choose a partner you can trust. (again the all-important theme of trust)
- Select a partner who can revel in intensity.
- Clear your relationship.
- Cultivate an attitude of gratitude and devotion to your partner.
- Be grounded and centered in your life.
- Be alter to the potential afforded by exhaustion and hyper sensitivity.
- Have sex in a special place.
- Give yourself plenty of time.
- Invite the experience but then release the intention.
- Enjoy and protract sensual play.
- Enhance your connection through foreplay.
- Be the passive partner.
- Narrow attention in a relaxed way to a single point.
- Go with whatever arises.
- Give up any outcome.
- Prolong erotic contact, including genital stimulation and penetration.
- Do what comes naturally.
- Be accepting of whatever happens.
There’s extensive detail in the book for all of these points in addition to many fascinating stories of people who’ve experienced transcendent sex.

The more one is plunged into the ocean of Spirit, into the ocean of infinite ease, the more one dies to one’s smaller self, dies to one’s ego, that finite and contracted mortal coil, and finds instead one’s own Original Face, one’s own Godhead, one’s own True Nature, prior to but not other to the entire manifest world.”
